Library Chat Service

Planning is underway to reinstate the Library’s live chat service, which operated during the Covid 19 pandemic, with a view to it becoming a permanent service in the future.

Options are being explored for extending the service to coincide with evening and weekend service hours.

Online Research Consultations

The Subject Librarian team is available (by appointment) to meet with students on a one to one or small group basis via Zoom providing direction on search strategies for literature/scoping and systematic reviews.

A new online booking system is being created to streamline the process for requesting these appointments.

Online Search Guides

New online LibGuides: ‘Defining Your Research Question’, Smart Searching and ‘Doing a Literature Review’ instruct users on how to make the most of online collections and avail of tools to improve the research journey.

Where possible, ‘Database Accessibility Features’ guides will be embedded at point of need within databases and in the Library Services Platform.

Accessibility Supports

An Inclusive Library webpage consolidates Library supports for readers including a new guide for those who struggle with reading text.

Academic Integrity Supports

Working with Trinity Teaching and Learning and Student Learning Development, the Library has created a new LibGuide What does Good Academic Practice look like?. The resource includes a 30 minute ‘Understanding Plagiarism and the Art of Referencing’ tutorial and a series of student-to-student top tip videos.

The Library will be creating a new tutorial in 2024/25 to replace ‘Ready Steady Write’. Options to embed the new tutorial in the institutional Virtual Learning Environment are being explored.

Research module for PhD students

Working with Student Learning Development and the Postgraduate Student Advisory Service, the Library co-delivers a 5-credit module for doctoral students called Planning and Managing Your Research Process.

Each year the module content and delivery format are reviewed and developed based on feedback from past students.

Technology upgrade in Library teaching spaces

The teaching labs in the former Berkeley Library have been upgraded with new AV equipment to respond to Hy Flex teaching and learning.

New furniture and room configurations are being explored to enhance teaching and learning experiences for learners and teachers.

Artificial Intelligence Literacy

The Library has drafted a new Artificial Intelligence LibGuide on how to use Generative AI tools and best practice for acknowledge their use in student work.

The guide is a living resource and will be updated as new college policy and tools are developed. AI literacy workshops for students will be co-developed with Student Learning Development for 2024/25.

Systematic Review Skills

Support for synthesising evidence skills remains one of the key offerings from the Library’s Subject Librarian team. The Doing a Systematic Review LibGuide guides researchers on how to create a protocol, recording searches, managing results and writing up results using a PRISMA diagram.

A new module ‘Sustainability & Systematic Searching’ will be co-developed with the Education for Sustainable Development (ESD) Fellows in 2024/25.

Skills addressing the Trinity Graduate Attributes

In recent years, the Library has collaborated with academic departments to develop students’ skills as part of the Trinity Graduate Attributes ‘to think independently and to communicate effectively'. One such example is a collaboration with the School of Creative Arts to develop students’ research skills which resulted in a zine exhibition in the former Berkeley Library.

The Library welcomes future collaborations - to provide workshops for students on information and digital literacy skills and to co-curate mini exhibitions showcasing undergraduate research.

Pop-up Clinics

Pop up Spring and Autumn research clinics located in the former Berkeley Library foyer encouraged students to avail of one-to-one bespoke sessions with faculty Librarians.

The pop-up clinic service will be scaled up to ensure more frequent clinics and in more venues across Library buildings.

360 virtual tour of Library spaces

The Library has conducted market research to identify a suitable platform for creating a virtual tour of Library spaces. A 360 camera has been procured and a project team created to develop the tour, which will eventually extend to all library reading room spaces.

The 360 virtual tour platform has the potential facilitate a virtual tour of the entire campus. Once the Library tour is in place, the Library will work with partners to realise the full potential of the software.
